From Corporate Rejections to Starting My Own Business
Hi everyone!
I thought it was time to introduce myself properly and share how I ended up running my own small creative business here in the Netherlands. This isn’t your typical success story, and there are no miracles here, just harsh reality, a lot of stubbornness, and getting back on my feet.
A few years ago, I decided to dive into programming. I put a lot of time and energy into it, starting with frontend basics (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React). But I soon hit a wall. Due to the economic situation and the sudden boom of AI, junior positions practically vanished. Everywhere I went, I heard the exact same thing: “We are not hiring juniors.”
I started looking into Java, Spring Boot, and MySQL, hoping there would be more opportunities for a junior on the backend. To prove myself, I even built my own project and deployed it to AWS all by myself. But I had to face the bitter truth: without connections, breaking into today’s market is almost impossible. Despite the countless applications and all the hard work, the doors stayed closed. At one point, I even let go of the AWS project, it just didn’t make sense to keep paying to maintain it.
I’d be lying if I said it didn’t hurt. It was demotivating and frustrating to do everything right and still be rejected by the market.
But instead of giving up, I looked at what else I had. I realized I was still very passionate about building websites, and I could translate my programming logic into something more creative. I started working with WordPress, and dusted off my Wacom digital tablet, which I had mostly used as a hobby until then.
I began designing custom postcards, business cards, and greeting cards. And then it clicked: why not combine these two worlds into my own business?
What does this mean in practice?
Today, I help businesses and individuals who don’t want to get lost in the details.
When someone works with me, they get complete branding from a single source. You don’t need to find a logo designer, then look for a web developer, and then hire a graphic designer for your business cards. With me, everything from scratch to a finished, working website and printed materials is handled under one roof. No misunderstandings, no pointing fingers: communication is fast, direct, and you only deal with one person: Me.
Who am I behind the monitor?
When I’m not sitting in front of the computer fine-tuning code or graphics, I’m probably out in nature. I love hiking, cycling, and messing around in the garden. I’m a huge animal and nature lover, and this organic calmness often shows up in my designs.
When I’m indoors, I enjoy glass painting, reading, watching a good series, or playing video games. Oh, and I have two serious addictions: puzzles and Sudoku. These are probably leftovers from my programmer brain, but I love them and can spend hours focusing on a thousands of pieces puzzle.
This is me. A Hungarian living in the Netherlands, building her own path.
